Students Fiona Suave (Highland High), and Haily Bickes (Campo Verde), were recognized for their award winning poetry on civic discourse

The Governing Board convened an Executive Session at 5:30pm March 27th, 2018 to discuss the appointment of Terrie Barnes as the Principal of Augusta Ranch Elementary, and Keegan Bassett as the Principal of Finley Farms Elementary.

The business meeting was then called to order at 6:30pm.  Mr. Reed Carr was not in attendance and Mrs. Jill Humpherys was on the telephone.

The Superintendent’s recognitions followed.

Students Fiona Suave (Highland High), and Haily Bickes (Campo Verde), were recognized for their award winning poetry on civic discourse, which they shared. Wrestler Tanner Waite was recognized for placing 2nd in Division 1, 138lb category. The 5A Campo Verde boys soccer team, 2018 state champions, were recognized along with their coaches. State runners-up 5A Mesquite High girls basketball team were also celebrated.


The Superintendent’s report followed with mention of:

  • the 25 year breakfast coming up this week: 47 employees will be celebrated on Thursday morning

  • teacher, support staff and administrator of the year will be announced April 12th at the Employee of the Year celebration 

  • teachers wearing red on Wednesdays to support change in funding for education

  • the extension of Proposition 301 

  • congratulations to Campo Verde school orchestras and bands in New York preparing to play in Carnegie Hall

  • Desert Ridge Junior High named as an AVID Demonstration School today, the first school in the district to achieve this honor


The report on budget, cash, bond and student activity followed, presented by Mr. Jeff Gadd, Assistant Superintendent. There were no questions. Dr. Santa Cruz thanked Mr. Gadd for the clarity of the report.

The consent agenda items were approved with a vote of 4:0.


The following action items were then discussed, and approved with votes of 4:0 in favor.

  • 9.01 Approval of the Appointment of Principal for Augusta Ranch Elementary for the 2018-2019 School Year

  • 9.02 Approval of the Appointment of Principal for Finley Farms Elementary for the 2018-2019 School Year

  • 9.03 Approval of Employee Benefits Trust Committee Recommendations for the 2018-2019 School Year

  • 9.04 Approval of the 2018 - 2019 Memorandum of Understanding Employee Handbook

  • 9.05 Policy Development: Second Read / Adoption of Policy DJG - Vendor / Contractor Relations

  • 9.06 Policy Development: Second Read / Adoption of Policy DJGA - Sales Calls and Demonstrations​​​​​​​
